Michael Okpara University On Fire As VC prof Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe Caused Riot Over School Fees Hike

Micheal Okpara University closed indefinitely as students protest fee hike. On Tuesday, students at the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in Abia State protested against the school administration’s proposed tuition increase.

Media24flashnews Team Abia State gathered that Michael Okpara University of Agriculture was on fire yesterday. Students damaged many things as Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the Vice-chancellor of the Institution went to Exam halls on Monday and drove away students who have not paid school fees , prevented them from writing the Exam even with some of them crying to him to allow them that they would pay later. Also those who paid and where not captured properly either their names were missing and their pictures shown only or names shown and pictures not showing where prevented to write Exam too.

Those who came to Exam with 90% of the fees where not allowed to write Exam. All he had laboured for, built in the school were damaged and burnt . The most annoying is the newest 3 in one mighty hall burnt yesterday. The newest fence which is less than one month old brought down.

One of the videos from the school shows some running out of an examination, lamenting that they were being driven out.

Another video appears to show people pursuing Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the vice-chancellor of the institution.

Media24flashnews gathered that Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (Mouau) students are calm, Peacefully and Law abiding Citizens. The VC pushed them. On Senate meeting last week, he said he would wear jeans for the students on that Monday and he did. Imagine he told them that yesterday lets fight and came out from his car. It was his security men that dragged him inside the car and students were try to drag him out. That was what led to stoning his car and pursuing him to the house. Fortunately for him, he ran to the town because one of his security men were seriously injured when he tried to save VC.

On the hit of the riot, The Vice-chancellor issued a circular on Tuesday on behalf of the Senate directing the institution to close indefinitely.

It reads, “This is to notify the public that the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State woke up to experience the violation of the long-existing peace of the University this morning.

“Miscreants took over the University, chasing and pursuing the Vice-Chancellor, damaging his official vehicle and those of his officials claiming that they were not allowed to take their 1st Semester examination owing to their failure to pay their charges.

“The University’s record show that more than 70% of the students had paid their charges and were peacefully taking their examinations, while more than two thousand were in the queue to pay and register their courses before the miscreants and hoodlums took the stage to cause trouble and disrupted the long-standing peace of the University.

“To safeguard life and properties on Campus, the University Management has on behalf of the Senate ordered an indefinite down the University indefinitely.”

“All students are advised to vacate the University premises immediately, but not later than 5.00pm on Tuesday, 6th February 2024,” the statement added
