The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) should come out now and sanction all the Professors that helped in rigging the 2023 elections. As a priest and a member of the academic community, I wish to condemn such sacrilegious acts of these senior colleagues.
It is very shameful that a professor can condescend so low as to help common criminals and political desperados to manipulate electoral results. ASUU Should step in immediately and sanction these compromisers. Malpractice of any kind is never acceptable in the academic world and no academic is allowed to aid or abet malpractice of any kind anywhere, especially on official engagements.
It is through this inglorious process of rigging of electoral results that many wicked leaders emerged in Nigeria and dealt with Lecturers, making them to always embark on strike. So, it’s really very unbelievable that these professors have not learnt their lessons after spending the whole of last year on strike. On a very serious note, these thieves are not worthy to answer professors.
Nigerians are not fools. They are not ready to sympathize with ASUU again if the union fails to sanction these roughs in academic gown.
Meanwhile, ASUP and COEASU should discuss with all relevant agencies and stakeholders, to include Lecturers from Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in these electoral assignments. The work shouldn’t be reserved only for university Lecturers since it’s obvious they are messing it up. After all, it is the same PhD they possess that Polytechnic and College of Education Lecturers have. ‘Professor’ is just a rank which is equivalent of ‘Chief Lecturer’ in the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
Lecturers are teachers. Teaching is a noble profession and a teacher is not only a role model but a character molder. So, it is not only unpatriotic but a national embarrassment that a teacher (Lecturer/professor) cannot oversee a free, fair and credible election or announce electoral results intact without manipulations. Such an idiot should be appropriately sanctioned. He has nothing to teach the younger generation and should be dismissed.
Finally, I want to call on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to prevail on ASUU to do the needful because Nigerians, Labour Unions and Civil Society Organizations are not ready to embark on sympathy strike or solidarity protest again for ASUU, you can’t have your cake and eat it. He who goes to equity must go with clean hands.
